6'4" 311lbs - Mack is an intelligent, experienced lineman who possesses excellent leadership qualities. He has great size and strength and is a good athlete. He’s aware of his surroundings, is quick off the line and tough at the point of attack. He’s a technician who uses his hands to his advantage and mauls the opposition until the whistle is blown. - Chris Steuber, Scout.com
The Browns first traded out of the 5th spot by swaping with the Jets and their 17th pick. The Browns also got a 2nd round pick and 3 players in return for the 5th pick.
The Browns then traded down from the 17th pick by swapping with the Tampa Bay Bucs for the 19th pick and a 6th round pick. Two picks later at 19, the Browns did the exact same thing with Philadelphia and moved down to the 21st pick and again getting another additional 6th round pick.
With the 21st pick, the Browns FINALLY made a pick taking Alex Mack - Center out of California. Pundits consider this a solid pick and the Browns can always use good linemen. A rumored silver lining is that the Steelers were hoping Mack would fall to them at 32. If this is true, then Mangini certainly gets the rivalry concept.
Mack will be groomed to replace Hank Fraley who's contract expires after the 2010 season.
